The vampire bared his teeth playfully at his reflection in the mirror opposite him. Laughing a booming, yet soft laugh, he grinned at himself. Jasper was trying to cheer himself up and it was working.. a little bit. But what was he kidding? His recent depressed mood had made everyone, who encountered him, weary. That's what happend I guess when you finally realize that you are going to live forever.. how boring. He licked his lips and sat down onto the couch that was across the room from the mirror. All of a sudden, he didn't feel happy. Again. His gleeful moments were few and far between. Plus, Alice was away.. and how much he missed her so. The family of which he was a part of had been avoiding him lately. He didn't blame them, either. Unfortunately, his staggered attitudes had finally tipped them off to just leave him alone. Which just made him more upset and more loathing of himself. He despised being a vampire.. so much that he had wished many times that he could die forever. But, those thoughts were before the time he had met Alice. The love of his used-to-be wonderful life. Almost ruining his relationship with Emmett, he decided to stay away from the house for a while. But, the family had gone out today.. or at least that's what he was told by the note that Esme had left. Hunched over, his face was now in his hands as his thoughts raced through his mind.. making a headache appear in the middle of his forehead. That only made him more frustrated as he clenched and unclenched his fists. How idiotic it was for him to actually think he was worth something. All he did, now, was cause pain to those he cared for. Why did he have to be so moronic? Okay, so self-pity parties occured every once and a while for him. But he was slightly self-centered, so what did it matter? Jasper jumped up from the couch and went downstairs into the living room with the piano. The tips of his mouth turned up just a tad as he took a set at the enormous instrument. Laying his fingers upon the keys, a sense of calmness and relief flew through his body in waves. He let his eyes close as his fingers moved over the white tiles connected to the piano. He wasn't amazing at playing instruments, but he did play well. The music rang throughout the empty house, filling the corners and empty spaces that were located in this area.

xx. and when it rains on this side pearly white fingers grasped the iron door handle, and in one swift flick of the wrist, the door swung open and elegant piano music streamed out. A smile lit upon the vampire's pale face as she stopped for a moment to listen to the perfectly harmonious notes, weaving above and between and below one another, weaving a magnificent tapestry of sound. Beyond the melody which rang through the house, Alice heard fingers tapping quickly against the white tiles and coming off with a tiny echo. A sense of calmness spread through Alice like ocean waves, lapping slowly at her toes and rising up past her head, filling her with a feeling of tranquility. A grin chiseled itself across her stone face and Alice danced into the piano, her tiny feet barely touching the floor. Her heart leapt as her eyes fell upon the hunched form at the piano, messy blond hair falling into his eyes, fingers flying across the keyboard. Alice stood behind him for a moment, still and silent, letting the music dance around her. After a long hunting trip, Alice couldn't be feeling better- the burning in her throat dulled, her eyes gleaming topaz, and now coming home to Jasper's serenade. Her mind drifted as he played, bouncing from one thing to another. It finally settled on her sister, Bella, and a frown penetrated that sunny grin for a split second. Her brow furrowed in thought as Alice remembered the desperation her sister had felt just before Alice left. For years, Bella had seemed afraid of love- or maybe she just didn't think there was anyone worth her time- and now, she had to choose a human. Not that Alice had anything against the boy, in fact, he seemed like one of the best she could have chosen. The part that troubled her was that Bella didn't seem to understand. Love between a vampire and a human was near to impossible.
The song came to a gentle end, trickling away like chimes on a windy morning, and Alice stepped forward in one swift, fluid motion and placed her arms around Jasper's waist, leaning down and kissing his cheek. She smiled as she breathed in his sweet scent of smoke and freshly cut grass and whispered in his ear, I'm back, lover boy. She smirked and squeezed onto the bench next to him, shoving his body a few inches to make room for Alice's own petite form. She then took his hand and leaned her head on his shoulder. Over the few days Alice was gone, she had been haunted by visions of Jasper suffering, lonely and miserable. She had waited for him to get over it, but soon things had gotten out of hand and she'd cut the trip short to come back to him. You do okay without me? the words had a playful tone, but there was a darker undertone, suggesting that she had been worried about him.
